Classical Chiropractic Adjustments

Chiropractic adjustments are performed by the hands of the doctor. They are very safe, generally painless, and extremely effective in the hands of a skilled doctor. Remember, if they were to license playing violin tomorrow, many people could get the license, but very few would be in Carnegie Hall.

An effective adjustment is not a gross manipulation, but a highly precise use of a very fast, highly directed force for the purpose of obtaining the specific movement of a specific vertebral joint. This is what distinguishes the Chiropractic adjustment from an Osteopathic manipulation, or the Joint mobilization or imitation Chiropractic attempted by other practitioners, i.e. a Chiropractic adjustment is a high-velocity, low-intensity form of manipulation, and Osteopathic technique are low-velocity, high-intensity and therefore are generally far more uncomfortable to the patients, but require far less skill and training to accomplish.

Franklin Lakes Chiropractor, Dr. Robert Press has been trained in a more than 5000 hour program, involving 5 academic years after college, JUST for Chiropractic. In comparison, the Physical therapist who attempts to manipulate a spine, has taken some 100+ hours in week-end seminars, and the Osteopath, though licensed to practice medicine, may as an elective course, have about 125 hours of manipulation during his/her medical training.

Manipulation Under Anaesthesia
What if I am in severe pain or spasm?

Then there are several courses we may follow: First, we can utilize all the effective physiotherapeutic modalities Dr. Press has at his disposal to try to reduce your pain, and inflammation so that you can be adjusted. If you are in severe spasm and cannot be treated by traditional means, then Dr. Press can refer you to a chiropractor who is able to admit you to an operating room, and working with a Board Certified Anesthesiologist, adjust your spine under either conscious sedation, or general anesthesia if required.

Dr. Press' Credentials

Dr. Press, completed all technique courses at National University of Health Sciences, in Lombard, Illinois, completing an internship there, and studying Motion Palpation and Applied Kinesiology techniques, in addition to numous post-graduate seminars and classes.
